We are looking for someone who can help support with various maintenance tasks both inside and outside of the school building. Hours for position are 16-20 hours per week, most work will be scheduled during evening hours.

 

The Maintenance Worker performs multi-craft work to maintain and repair physical structure of the school buildings. Work may include areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or HVAC. Additionally, the Maintenance Worker is committed to Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports to the Facilities Director or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:       High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Licensure or certification in related field(s)                                                        preferred.     

                                    3-4 years of previous experience working in a related position is preferred.

                                    Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.

                                    Ability to multitask and prioritize work.

                                    Ability to relate well to others.

                                    Ability to work independently

                                    Ability to use lawn cutting equipment/tools

 

REPORTS TO:               Facilities Director or their designee

 

SUPERVISION:            None

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Maintenance Worker will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the Facilities Director may also assign other tasks they deem appropriate.

• Performs minor repairs of all buildings and equipment as appropriate and directed. 
• Replaces broken windows, repairs doors, door locks, and installs window blinds.
• Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on assigned tasks and building equipment  such as machinery/mechanical equipment, sprinkler systems, athletic fields, and other areas as assigned.
• Follows preventative maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
• Maintains and references user manuals to troubleshoot equipment and communicates clearly and effectively with outside vendors carrying out work orders and specifications as necessary.
• Makes minor electrical repairs or assists in electrical tasks requiring a licensed electrician.
• Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures, walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures, using appropriate materials and tools
• Performs outside custodial duties such as snow removal and salting as required.
• Regularly inspects machinery, mechanical equipment, and sprinkler system compressor for defects and to ensure equipment is in working order.
• Makes minor plumbing repairs, such as opening clogged drains using appropriate tools or assists in plumbing tasks requiring a licensed plumber.
• Performs basic outside maintenance and upkeep to the school grounds, including grass cutting, to maintain safe and attractive conditions.
• Assists Custodial department during special events as necessary and as assigned by supervisor.
• Constructs and repairs partitions and other wooden structures using saws, braces, bits, and other appropriate materials and tools.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area.
• Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures at all times.
• Uses and wears safety and/or protective equipment as necessary and appropriate.
• Adheres to proper cleaning methods, storage, and proper care of Atlantis Charter School equipment and supplies.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Responds to emergency maintenance and/or custodial requests as required, including answering emergency alarm calls after hours as assigned.
• Reports all accidents and/or potential hazards to the Facilities Director immediately, or as soon as reasonably possible.
• Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building when assigned and ensures that all doors and windows are secured, lights are turned off and alarm system turned on before leaving the premises.

EVALUATION

An annual performance evaluation of the Maintenance Worker will be conducted by the Facilities Director or their designee. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

At will employment.  Scheduled start and end times are subject to change during the course of employment on an as needed basis.  Hourly rate as negotiated per agreement.  The employee assumes responsibility for repair, maintenance and replacement of any tools used in carrying out job duties that are owned by the employee.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent walking, standing, lifting, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 100 pounds may be required.  Work is typically performed walking or standing.  The work environment also exposes the employee to potentially hazardous substances, such as chemicals in cleaning supplies.  Employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards, including all types of weather, potentially extreme heat and cold at times. Employee will receive a 30 minute unpaid lunch break as well as one 15 minute ACS paid break.   Work schedule is subject to change, including during breaks when school is not in session.
